Delayed Reaction: Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain

The Pitch: Kevin Hart is doing stand up and he's very popular doing it.

What Took Me So Long: I have been getting into Hart's stand up only recently.

Why I Saw It: (Club 50) It's interesting to see how a comic handles being at the top. In terms of touring, Hart's absolutely the biggest show in town. The nature of the jokes have to change at this level because his life is much different from when it started. As always, his charisma carries him through the show.

Why I Wish I Hadn't: There's a point, and it's not really the comic's fault, when the audience becomes to big and the fan too adoring. The stand up becomes a love fest. Everyone is already sold on the comedian and all the comic has to do is say a couple key words and there's an applause break. The last time I was as struck by it in a stand up special as this one was one of Margaret Cho's most recent specials. This is a great victory lap for Hart. As a viewer who wanted to get more of a sense of Hart's act as opposed to his popularity, this was underwhelming.

Verdict (?): Weakly Don't Recommend
