Quick Reaction: From Russia with Love

These movies are so clearly designed as interchangeable fun, that it's going to be hard for me to come up with something new to say about each of them. This is the second film in the franchise - part of 4 movies in 4 years - and they already have the formula down completely. It's just action set pieces, fun gadgets, Sean Connery being a cad, and sex. The franchise has definitely gotten less sexy over the years as the rest of the film landscape has caught up. The franchise is the film evidence of the old saying "you can go from liberal to conservative in 50 years without changing a single idea". This movie in 1963 is virtually the same structurally as Die Another Day in 2002, except From Russia With Love was hip and risqué, whereas Die Another Die was basically a throwback that caused them to completely rework the franchise in 2006. So far, I've only seen the early Bond films from 1963-65. I can't wait to see how they react to the counter-culture movement in the late 60s and beyond.

Verdict: Weakly Recommend
