Technology has made a lot of things possible with filmmaking. Literally anyone can make a film. Remember, a couple years ago, Tangerine, a film shot on an IPhone, was a popular top 10 pick on a lot of critics lists. Anyone has the ability to make a movie. Horror in particular is a genre that has thrived with diminished budgets. No genre lends itself to the found footage style better than horror and lackluster film quality can sometimes amplify the ability to scare.
However, there are still limits on what you can do without a budget. Galaxy of Horrors proves it. Its ambition doesn't match its budget. There are some good ideas behind the shorts. The CGI looks so bad though. Like, so bad that they should just made animated shorts. I don't mean to be a production snob. Some ideas just need a budget or better technology to pull off.
It probably didn't help that the stories were pretty familiar. By the end, all I was noting was which recent movie or episode of Black Mirror they were pulling from. The only short I unqualitatively liked was the sixth short, an alternate take on the movie Passengers.
Verdict (?): Strongly Don't Recommend
