My thoughts on the movie itself are pretty basic.
It's basically the "proof of concept" hit that set up Tom Hanks and
Ron Howard's careers for the next several decades (Hanks as a star, Howard as a
director). The movie is sweet and weird. It has a lot of fun with the idea of
Darryl Hannah as a mermaid. It actively avoids overthinking anything and always
opts for an easy answer rather than a sensible answer to any questions you
have about the premise. That's fine, because it's a silly RomCom. Hanks and
Hannah have good chemistry. Except for some John Candy bits, it ages pretty
well. I liked it.
Verdict: Weakly Recommend
