Look, if it’s 1980 and Jamie Lee Curtis agrees to be in your horror movie, you make it. That’s the entire idea behind Prom Night. And it’s a decent slasher. The list of things that stand out though is limited. First is non-Laurie Strode, non-John Carpenter Jamie Lee Curtis. Next is a sweet disco track. I’m always surprised to see something where disco is sincerely used. That was an era that cemented such a mixed reputation after the fact that it’s hard for me to remember that it was the most popular music at the time. Oh, and the last notable thing is pre-Airplane (before its reputation set in, at least) Leslie Nielsen. It’s amazing to think about how entirely that movie changed his career.
Verdict: Weakly Don’t Recommend
