The Premise: A woman needs electric shocks to control her violent impulses.
There isn’t much to say about this movie. Kate Beckinsale looks cool when she’s beating people up. That’s the movie. She did Underworld for so long and still has some aggression to work out. Of course, Beckinsale is not an imposing looking person. She’s average height and skinny, so they have to concoct this rage pseudo-superpower for her. It doesn’t make a ton of sense, but it doesn’t need to.
This isn’t a very good movie. Most people seem to be doing this in between bigger jobs. I mean, Stanley Tucci, Bobby Cannavale, and Laverne Cox seem to be having some fun, so why not? This is the kind of movie that casts Jai Courtney to play a charming accountant then we’re expected to be surprised when he turns out to be the villain. No duh. Just look at Jai Courtney. If he isn’t the lead of your movie, then he’s a villain.
At barely 90 minutes, it’s hard to complain much about this movie. It’s a shoot-em-up movie in the Guy Ritchie lineage. While not exactly a comedy, it is laughing at itself the whole time. As long as Kate Beckinsale wants to beat people up, I’m an intrigued audience. Perhaps this is what keeps her sharp until she shows up in a John Wick movie. I don’t care. There are worse ways to burn 90 minutes.
Verdict: Weakly Don’t Recommend
