Is Mutiny on the Bounty an enduring classic? No. Not in my estimation. It's not my favorite early Best Picture winner, but it sure feels like a movie that should win. Some of those early winners (Cimmaron, The Broadway Melody) felt like they were being rewarded for being the most passable major productions of those years. Mutiny actually feels like a movie. It could've come out 10 or 20 years later and belonged. The performances by Charles Laughton and Clark Gable are movie star performances. The production values on both the boat and island sets are really good. The conflict between Captain Bligh and Fletcher Christian is decently nuanced. This is definitely one of the Best Picture winners I don't regret watching.
Verdict: Weakly Recommend
