This movie is probably best known for having one of the cooler movie posters you're going to find. It's also Michael Mann's first movie. It has all the Hallmarks of a Mann movie: Chicago, guys who are good at a job, it's about 30 minutes longer than you'd think. I liked it. The "con doing one last job before getting out" setup is a trope for a reason: it works. I like seeing what a precision robbery looks like across eras, so this was a nice time capsule for 1981. James Caan is a very good Michael Mann lead. He's a grizzled 41 in this, with the weariness of someone who knows he's on borrowed time in his line of work. I kind of wish the movie had a little more Willie Nelson though.
Verdict: Weakly Recommend
